“We Are The World”于1985年4月13日登上公告牌百强单曲榜榜首，连续停留了四周。1986年2月25日，歌曲获得第28届格莱美奖“年度制作”、“年度歌曲”、“最佳短篇音乐录影带”、“最佳流行合作表演”四项大奖。该首歌曲最终为非洲筹集到了5000多万美元的慈善捐款。

2009年7月7日，在迈克尔·杰克逊追悼会上，杰克逊的子女与众位歌手一同演唱了“We Are The World”，以表示对迈克尔·杰克逊的纪念。

“We Are The World”之前有三个版本, 即：美国45位歌手联合演唱版；Michael Jackson独唱的版本, 曲调是一样,  但歌词和合唱不太一样; 帕瓦罗蒂现场演唱版 (1999年帕瓦罗蒂与朋友们为危地马拉和科索沃的儿童而唱)。2010年1月12日，海地发生里氏7.0级大地震，造成了22.25万人死亡。在昆西·琼斯的号召下，美国的85名歌手于2月2日进入录音室录制了“We Are The World 25 For Haiti”，以为救济灾难饿而筹资。这个版本的MV在对应原版MV的地方的使用了迈克尔·杰克逊独唱视频片段，以示纪念。

4. 歌词及语言点解析 (迈克独唱版)

• There comes a time when we heed a certain call. 是时候了, 我们需要听从一个恳切的呼唤。
  

• heed [hi:d] vt.& n. 注意; 留心; 听从: I regret that I didn't heed his advice. 我很后悔当初没有听他的话。I cautioned him many times but he paid no heed. 我多次劝告，他都置若罔闻。

• I used to feel that I should give away my heart, and it shows that fear of needing them. 曾经我以为可以用心灵来慰籍他们, 事实上他们也的确是需要爱。

• 词义辨析 – deny, defy, decline, rebuff, refuse, reject 表示“拒绝/否定”：

• deny v. [正式] 否定; 否认; 拒绝, 不允许, 指不允许某人拥有某物或做某事。He was denied entry to the country. 他被拒绝进入该国。She could deny him nothing. 她对他有求必应。

• defy [dɪˈfaɪ]v. 违抗; 反抗; 蔑视; 顶住; 抗住。与deny相比较, deny是“否认知情”, “否定事实”等, 侧重于对发生的事表示否认, 而defy基本意思是“公然反抗”, 侧重于做与对方所希望相反的事。例如: Criminals defy the law. 罪犯无视法律。He won't allow anyone to defy his managerial authority. 他不允许任何人挑衅他的管理权威。This was the first and last time that I dared to defy my mother. 这是我第一次也是最后一次胆敢反抗我的母亲。
