Frank Abagnale is just about 18 years old while leading an unbelievably successful life. He is an airline pilot. He is a hospital's emergency room manager who graduates from Harvard. He is a lawyer who works as an assistant prosecutor. Also,he is a millionaire who owns a grand villa. Well, Frank reaches such miraculous achievements simply because he is a genius. A genius at deception. When Frank finally gets caught as FBI’s most wanted, this criminal forger, con man and impersonator is just all of 20 years old.

The story begins with a happy family in 1963 when Frank is 16 years old. However, the pleasant family life quickly comes to an end as Frank’s father is under investigationfor tax evasion. They have to move into a small apartment. The first day Frank transfers to a newschool, he gets ribbed by a student who belittles him. To get back, Frank pretends to be asubstitute French teacher and carries it off for three whole weeks!
故事始于1963年一个幸福的家庭，那时弗兰克16岁。然而美满的家庭生活很快就走到了尽头，弗兰克的父亲因逃税而接受调查。他们不得不搬到一所小公寓里去弗兰克转到新学校的第一天就被一个瞧不起他的学生欺负了。为了报复，弗兰克装作前来代课的法语老师，并且接连干了整整三周。
One day, Frank comes home to find hisparents in the midst of divorce proceedings. The lawyer asks him to choose which parenthe wants to live with. Instead, Frank runs away and starts forging checks after running out of money. Soon, he finds out that airline checks arethe easiest to pass. Therefore, Frank gets his hands on a Pan Am uniform and an FAA license. He forges his own Pan Am paychecks by soaking the airline's logo decals off of toy planes and pasting them onto bank drafts he's fabricated. He even starts to fly around the country for free, posing as a co-pilot on vacation.

Before long, FBI agent Carl Hanratty is on his tail. When Carl does catch him one day in an apartment, Frank pretends to be a National Security agent who has just arrested Frank and leaves Carl holding an empty wallet.
Forced to run after being discovered,Frank lands in Georgia, where his flirtations with a naive nurse lead to faking diplomas, posing as a doctor and landing a job at her hospital. To impress her Dad, a state prosecutor, Frank furtherly pretends to have a law degree. With a brilliant mind, he even manages to pass the Louisiana Bar within two weeks and takes a job with his futurefather-in-law. By the way, Frank successfully impersonatesdoctor and lawyer simply by watching TV shows to learn everything. Still, Agent Hanratty finds him again, and finally catches him one year later.
这么一来，Frank不得不逃跑到乔治亚州去。而因为勾搭上了一个头脑单纯的护士，他决定伪造学历,到这个护士所在的医院里当个医生为了给护士的父亲，一位州检察官，留下好印象,弗兰克进一步装作自己还有法律学位。因为智商过人，他居然真的在两周内通过了路易斯安那州的法律执业考试,并且开始到自己岳父手下干活。对了,弗兰克完全是通过观看电视节目来学习怎么假扮医生和律师的。不过到头来汉拉第探员还是找到了他并且在一年后逮捕了弗兰克。
Deep inside, Frank is just a lonely child who has been desperate to get his parents remarry each other. And he somehow finds the love of the father manifested in the hard-hearted FBI. On a Christmas Eve when Frank is still atlarge, he makes a call to Carl to wish him MerryChristmas. And Carl manages to get Frank a job at FBI, so that Frank can make restitution for his crimes by helping the authorities capture other forgers.
说到底，弗兰克只是个孤单的孩子,拼了命地想要自己爸妈复合。而他也与看似冷酷的FBI探员建立起了奇妙的父子般的情谊。弗兰克在逃期间的一个平安夜，曾经给卡尔打电话祝他圣诞快乐。 而卡尔则想办法给弗兰克在FBI弄了一份活儿，这样弗兰克就可以通过帮当局抓捕其它罪犯来弥补自己当年犯下的过错了。
