据说，这首1983年问世的曲子原是为纪念甲壳虫乐队（The Beatles）被枪杀的主唱约翰·列侬（John Lennon）而作。 1980年12月8日，马克·查普曼伪装成一个歌迷，在列侬的公寓旁边徘徊了很久。那天晚上，当列侬从录音棚返回家中的时候，查普曼请列侬在他的签字本上签名。当时他内心曾进行过激烈的斗争，但最后仍然举起手枪朝着列侬的后背连开了4枪。 和Moonlight Shadow中所写的He was shot six times by a man on the run类似。但看了原版的MTV之后，这首歌应该和John Lennon的被刺并没有直接联系，似乎男主角死于一场决斗中，这倒象是普希金。

《Moonlight Shadow》（直译为“月光下的影子”）是一首由多乐器演奏家迈克·欧菲尔德谱写和演奏的英语流行歌曲，歌曲发行于1983年5月，并收录于同年发售的专辑《Crises》中。歌曲人声由迈克·欧菲尔德和于1980年相识的苏格兰歌手玛姬·赖利录制。这是欧菲尔德最成功的单曲，其排到了欧洲多个排行榜榜首。

Maggie Reilly，苏格兰人，Moonlight Shadow最早版本原唱歌手。Dana Winner翻唱的Moonlight Shadow是比较有代表性的。这版本充满欧陆民谣风，节奏由慢而快，开始的时候是很柔和舒服，当渐渐步入高潮时，节奏就开始轻快，女歌手的声音如月光般清澈透明，仿佛穿透了云层，自窗外天空飘了进来，轻快的节奏会让人随着节奏而翩翩起舞。Dana Winner的声线很适合moonlight shadow，因为很甜美柔和，很适合这首歌要代表的寓境。 

 Dana Winner 丹娜·云妮 ，比利时女歌手，1965年2月10日出生于哈塞尔特，发行过《RegenbogenCD》《Mijn paradijs》等多张专辑。音色纯净，音域宽广的她1988年在一次混音竞赛中，以一首由Mireille Mathieu唱的"Amour Défendu"的获胜．次年，发行了第一张单曲翻唱卡朋特的"Top of the World"（Op het dak van de wereld），从此走上演艺事业。
