Norah Jones1979年3月30日出生于纽约布鲁克林，家中为音乐世家，父亲是著名的印度席塔琴演奏家Ravi Shankar。Norah 15岁进入具有“灵魂美声”之称的艾瑞卡巴度的母校Booker T.Washington中学主修表演及视觉艺术。在连续获得1996年Down Beat学生音乐奖及1997年“最佳爵士歌手”音乐奖后，1999年夏天前往纽约，2000年秋，签入美国著名的爵士乐加工厂Blue Note，成为Blue Note音乐大厂中最年轻的爵士女歌手。
2002年发行了首张专辑《Come Away With Me》，凭借该专辑获得第四十五届格莱美音乐奖的年度专辑大奖、最佳新人大奖以及年度最佳专辑大奖在内的五项大奖；2004年发行第二张专辑《Feels Like Home》首周销量在美国突破百万；2007年1月24日第三张专辑《Not Too Late》发行；2009年发行了第四张专辑《The Fall》 ；2012年发行第五张专辑《Little Broken Hearts》，Happy Pills是主打单曲 。2013年与摇滚乐队绿日（Green Day）的主唱比利·乔（Billie Joe），合作推出专辑《Foreverly》。
