China launched a relay satellite into space on Monday morning as the first step in its Chang’e 4 lunar mission.

The satellite, named Queqiao after a legendary bridge in the Milky Way, was lifted atop a Long March 4C carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province, according to a statement from the China National Space Administration.

It was placed into an Earth-moon transfer orbit and has started a journey toward a halo orbit near the Earth-moon L2 Lagrangian point. From there it will relay communication signals between Earth and the Chang’e 4 lunar probe, which is scheduled to land on the moon around the end of this year, the administration said.

The Chang’e 4 mission will enable scientists to learn what they haven’t known about the moon. They can also take advantage of the far side’s shield against Earth’s interference to make clearer observations into deep space, according to Bao Weimin, head of science and technology at China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp.

Female students of Hunan Agricultural University in Changsha, Hunan province in China, have been barred from going inside the library due to their attire.

A notice was placed outside the library that said anyone wearing a skirt, shorts, or halter dress under 50 centimeters long is not allowed to enter the library’s premises, according to Pear Video via the South China Morning Post yesterday, May 20.

The ban caused a ruckus online, with some saying the university students should be allowed to wear whatever they want.

Although it is unclear when exactly the notice was posted, it was discovered that the order was made by the university after one student went to the provisional education authorities last Tuesday, May 15 to complain. The student said that the female students’ clothes "disrupted" others during their studies in the library.

Due to backlash and criticism, the notice was only up for a short time, the report said. It was taken down last Friday, May 18. On Saturday, May 19, another notice was placed, saying the ban on short skirts has been lifted.

The notice also contained an apology to the students for causing any confusion and inconvenience. However, the authorities maintained that flip flops and vests are still not allowed inside the library.

WASHINGTON—Lawmakers are moving to thwart Trump administration efforts to ease restrictions on Chinese telecommunications giant ZTE Corp. and other sensitive technology, citing fears the positions would compromise national security in the latest twist in trade negotiations between the world’s largest economies.

The Senate Banking Committee unanimously approved legislation on Tuesday that would tighten national-security reviews of Chinese technology deals by the interagency Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S., strengthen export controls and prohibit the Trump administration from lifting stiff penalties imposed on ZTE.

The U.S. and China recently agreed on the broad outlines of a deal that would allow U.S. companies to once again supply ZTE with components, lifting a ban that threatens to put the company out of business.

The U.S. has accused the company of failing to punish employees who violated sanctions against Iran and North Korea, but President Donald Trump recently held out the prospect of a reprieve in a gesture to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

As part of the ZTE negotiations, Beijing would remove tariffs on billions of dollars of U.S. farm products, according to people with knowledge of the matter in both countries. The Trump administration also is seeking Beijing’s help to facilitate denuclearization talks with North Korea.

In remarks at the White House on Tuesday, Mr. Trump said he envisioned a fine of more than $1 billion for ZTE, potentially reaching $1.3 billion, and that he believed ZTE should install new leadership and buy more American products. He said he was concerned about any action against ZTE hurting American companies that already sold parts to it.

US President Donald Trump has said there is a "very substantial chance" a historic summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un next month may not happen.

He said the North must meet conditions for the summit to go ahead though if it did not, it might happen "later".

Mr Trump was speaking as he received South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in at the White House.

The North has said it may cancel the summit if the US insists on it giving up nuclear weapons unilaterally.

Mr Trump did not say what conditions the US had set for the summit but, asked by a reporter about the North’s arsenal, he said "denuclearisation must take place".

Bosses at a Chinese bank were left red-faced after staff were caught offering elite clients the chance to dine with Donald Trump, and get photos snapped with him – for the princely sum of $150,000. The country’s second-largest state-owned bank, China Construction Bank, offered cashed-up clients the chance to enjoy dinner with the American president for $150,000 a ticket, spurring a complaint from Donald Trump’s re-election campaign to the US Department of Justice, reports Bloomberg News.

A Chinese-language invitation to the event seen by AFP, which did not include the hefty price tag, said the chair and finance chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) were ’inviting you for dinner with President Trump’ on May 31’. China Construction Bank said that ’some employees’ at a branch in the southern tech hub Shenzhen had ’passed on information’ to clients about tickets to a dinner with Trump.

’Event information was pushed by individual employees (to clients),’ the bank said in a statement, adding, ’our branch wasn’t involved.’ The invitations have raised eyebrows as US political campaigns are forbidden from accepting donations from foreign nationals or corporations. But it was unclear whether any tickets have been sold in China to the event, which only individuals with a US passport would be eligible to attend. Trump is expected to host a fundraising dinner with the RNC in Dallas on May 31, although it wasn’t clear if the invitations being circulated in China referred to the same event.
