I Am A Singer is back! The popular singing competition in China where professional singers are pitted against one another to be ruthlessly eliminated is now in its fifth season. The new season is now simply called ‘Singer’. There were a lot of speculations on who will be featured in Singer 2017 – some netizens even compared silouhettes to singer poses to guess who will be in the initial lineup – but the producers did a pretty good job of keeping it under wraps till the airing of the first episode. With the curtains down, the final lineup consists of Sandy Lam, Tan Jing, Lion band headed by Jam Hsiao, Michael Wong, Tia Ray, veteran Teresa Carpio and Dimash Kudaibergen from Kazakhstan.

1.Dimash – S.O.S D’un terrien en detresse

The biggest surprise in the first episode of Singer 2017 had to be Dimash from Kazakhstan. The talented Dimash not only picked french song S.O.S D’un terrien en detresse – one of the world’s five most difficult French song – as his debut song on the show, he also dazzled everyone with his extremely versatile vocals. The song requires the singer to combine various singing styles including opera, and use a wide range of falsetto and chest voices in order to even complete it. The 22-year-old Dimash was pitch perfect and became the youngest singer to top the competition in this round. The handsome Dimash also saw his fans grow more than four times on microblogging site Weibo after his awe-inspiring performance.

2017年《歌手》节目第一期最大的惊喜与亮点便是这位来自哈萨克斯坦的歌手迪玛希。这位天赋异禀的歌手选择了世界上最难演绎的五首法语歌之一——《一个忧伤者的求救》。迪玛希一开口，便凭借其收放自如的嗓音和极宽的音域惊艳众人。这首歌曲需要歌手变换多种唱腔，但无论从歌剧、真假音还是转换到胸腔共鸣，他都驾驭自如。除此之外，迪玛希音高也十分完美，这位年仅22岁的歌手成为节目史上最年轻的歌手。与此同时，迪玛希俊朗的外表更是吸粉无数，第一轮节目过后，其新浪微博的粉丝数相比之前增长了四倍之多。

2.Ray Tia – Miss Atsou

It was a tough spot to be in right after Dimash performance but Ray Tia who is an experienced contestant since her stellar results in The Voice of China was able to maintain her composure to deliver a good performance. But she was still voted to the bottom of the table in this round.

在迪玛希之后出场本身就是压力极大的事情，但对于袁娅维来说，她之前参加过《中国好声音》并取得优异成绩，舞台经验相对丰富，可以顶住压力，完成自己表演。然而，最终观众的投票结果却并不理想，目前袁娅维在第一轮比赛中以第七名垫底。

3.Michael Wong – The First Time

Michael Wong should have sought the opinion of buddy Victor Wong before he decided to join the competition. In a show like this, you either need very powerful pipes or a strong X-factor. Unfortunately for Michael, we felt that he possesses none of the above. Don’t get us wrong, we are not saying that his performance is not good. What we meant was his singing style and vocals are not suitable for this competition. We predict that he will be booted out in the next round.

Veteran singer Teresa chose John Lennon’s Imagine for her performance. She started the song in a ballad before switching mid-way to finish the song in a soft-rock arrangement. Nothing surprising in her rendition, fans familiar with her will probably expect a performance like this. However, we look forward to what she will bring to this stage in future rounds.

老牌歌手杜丽莎则选择了约翰·列侬的歌曲《Imagine》作为自己的演唱曲目。杜丽莎以抒情方式演绎歌曲的前半部分，之后便采用轻柔的摇滚方式完成下半首。她的演唱中规中矩，并无太大亮点，但熟悉她的歌迷可能明白这正是她的演绎方式。我们仍然非常期待杜丽莎接下来的表演。

5.Lion Band – Lion

Lion Band is a rock band started by Jam Hsiao last year. Performing the song ‘Lion’ from their first studio album, the essence of the band is greatly influenced by Jam Hsiao’s signature death metal screams, showmanship and playfulness. Jam Hsiao’s decision to enter the competition as a band will certainly bring more energy and surprises to the show.

狮子合唱团是去年由歌手萧敬腾一手成立的乐队，其本次的演唱歌曲也正是首张录音室专辑中收录的曲目——《Lion》。这支乐队由萧敬腾领军，兼具死亡金属的演唱方式和嘻哈摇滚的演唱风格。本次萧敬腾以乐队的形式参加《歌手》比赛，相信他也会为观众带来更多的能量和精彩。

6.Tan Jing – Good-bye, Youth.

Having performed at the 2007 Olympics in Shanghai and a sold out audience at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2011, Tan Jing’s vocal prowess and quality was to be expected. Giving her song a new arrangement, Tan Jing went from operatic ballad to rock. Challenging herself with a genre she is not familiar with is an good experience for her.

作为曾经在2007年的上海特殊奥林匹克夏季运动会上以及2011年伦敦座无虚席的皇家阿尔伯特音乐厅演唱的歌手，谭晶凭借其杰出的演唱才能备受观众期待。此次，谭晶团队重新编排曲目，其演唱风格也从歌剧民谣风转变成摇滚风。首次体验全新的演绎风格，这对于谭晶来说也是个不小的挑战,也是一段难得的经历。

7. Sandy Lam – Don’t care about who I am

Although Sandy Lam was rumoured to be in Singer 2017, we were still doubtful until we watched the first episode being aired. It has been awhile since she appeared in programmes as big as this and we were glad that we will be hearing more of her in subsequent rounds. Singing, she was effortlessly, at ease and bringing us through the song in her story-telling voice. Her sincere rendition earned her the number 2 spot in this round.
