很小的时候曲婉婷从中国哈尔滨来到加拿大上大学，但之后成为一名歌手。2015年，32岁的曲婉婷与51岁的温哥华市长罗品信高调宣布恋爱。目前曲婉婷与温哥华市长罗品信已经交往两年多了，去年四月份罗品信与记者确认了她母亲被逮捕一事。

据报道：曲婉婷的母亲张明杰是中国东北哈尔滨的高官，被指控贪污、受贿、滥用职权三项罪名。

《南华早报》报道事情的起因是源自于特大房地产骗局，而她本人涉案金额达到3.5个亿人民币。张明杰的做法导致农场的几百人生活非常艰难。

《人民日报》报道张明杰声称自己无罪，中国检方建议判处死刑，而曲婉婷也在微博上发表了状态。

曲婉婷表示“过去的两年里，我虽然不能跟她说话也不能见到她，但是我自己知道，我心里始终有一个位置像阳光一样温暖像月光一样明亮，是一个有我这样的女儿和她那样的妈妈的一个地方”曲婉婷在唱片公司网站上这么说。

“我相信每个人心中都有一个这样的地方，我希望她能听到这首歌，带给她爱和力量”。
