11月就要过去了，

我想聊一个比较特别的日子：

当然特别，理由有三：

理由一，看看历史上的11月5日 发生的事件。

        在英语文化中，11月5日是一个比较具有历史意义的日子，也是英国一年一度的篝火节，也被称为“盖伊·福克斯之夜”( Guy Fawkes Night )。其实，我也是11月5号当天才偶然知道的，呵呵～ 了解一下事件起源吧：

理由二，了解几位生于11月5日的名人。

       那么，在11月5日这天生日的有哪些名人呢？肯定也有不少，小编就选了几个自己知道并且喜欢或者有印象的人物吧。

There are some celebrities whose birthday are 5th November, too. I like or know three of them: Vivien Leigh, Will Durant, and Ella Wheeler Wilcox.

        英国演员费雯丽（1913年11月5日～1967年7月8日），在三十年代红时，她是《乱世佳人》里的郝思嘉，也是《魂断蓝桥》里的玛拉。

        费雯丽既美丽，又勤奋，气质不凡，演技好，我好喜欢她的电影！

Vivien Leigh was (5 November 1913 – 8 July 1967) was an English stage and film actress. She was extremely beautiful and hardworking. Her acting was great! I like many of her films, especially Gone With The Wind and Waterloo Bridge, etc.

       美国作家、历史学家和哲学家威尔·杜兰特（1885年11月5日～1981年11月7日），他以其著作《哲学的故事》和《文明的故事》（这本书部分由他与妻子阿瑞尔·杜兰特共同完成。）而闻名于世。我只读过一点点《哲学的故事》，感觉比较通俗易懂，但是比较花时间，书好厚。

He became best known for his work The Story of Civilization, 11 volumes written in collaboration with his wife, Ariel Durant, and published between 1935 and 1975. He was earlier noted for The Story of Philosophy (1926), described as "a groundbreaking work that helped to popularize philosophy.

I’ve just read a small part of his The Story of Philosophy. I suppose it’s not very difficult to understand, but it takes time to finish the thick book.

        美国女作家和诗人埃拉·威尔勒·威尔考克斯（1850年11月5日～1919年10月30日），她的作品包括《激情之诗》（Poems of Passion) 和《与世隔绝》( Solitude)。我挺喜欢威尔考克斯的一些短诗：短小精悍而有令人回味的东西，哪怕是简单地描绘风景，也令人不由自主地张开了想象的翅膀。

        有些读者最初是在张爱玲的小说《花凋》里看到这句诗的，以为就出自这部小说。但其实，很可能，张爱玲引用了威尔考克斯的诗句，至少从两人所处的时代先后次序来看是合理的。当然，引用得当亦需翻译斟酌，更是无可厚非的。

Ella Wheeler Wilcox (November 5, 1850 – October 30, 1919) was an American author and poet. Her works include Poems of Passion and Solitude, which contains the lines "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone".

There is a famous quotation, Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone. It is from Wilcox’s Solitude. Some Chinese readers read this quotation from the novel Hua Diao ( means withering ) by Eileen Chang. I suppose that Chang translated and quoted the quotation from Solitude, and she adapted it into her novel Hua Diao (withering) in a good way.
