A&R(artist and repertoire)部门工作。

之后Swayzak作为David的个人计划,获得了Midland, Craig Richards, Dubfire, Tensnake, Solomun, Mano Le Tough, Laurent Garnier, Mark E, Konrad Black, Tensnake, Jozif, Heidi, My Favourite Robot, Danny Howells, Mixmag, BBC Radio 1, Resident Advisor, Vice Magazine... Resopal, Save You and Cobra Voyage等厂牌制作remix.
Brown and Taylor founded Swayzak after meeting on the job at Island Records. They produced dozens of 12-inches and just under ten albums together, most notably 1998's Snowboarding in Argentina.
David Brown and James Taylor, after all, have been in and around the world of music since the '80s, when they met at Island Records. As Brown recounts, "I started out answering the phones, parking cars, stuff like that. I worked for the managing director for a little while and he actually noticed that I liked music, which he seemed to think was quite odd in a record company! He told me I should go and work in the A&R department. I used to listen to all the demo tapes that all the major A&R guys wouldn't listen to. I had to listen to them so actually me and James used to sit there on a Thursday afternoon after work and we'd just listen. You know, some of them were good, but some of them were really pathetic."
For a long time, the duo didn't even make music together. For a long time after they started messing around, they didn't bother to release it. "We had no money," remembers Taylor, "so it was like, 'OK, let's play in the studio and make some tunes,' and we'd make some hour-long tracks and stuff like that because we could. Everything was much slower when we started because I was much more into hip-hop and ambient stuff. When we said, 'OK, let's try something faster,' suddenly everything jelled."
Swayzak have been using Ableton Live in the studio and on stage for over 10 years. They have made available an actual live set via the Ableton website and James has been giving frequent Ableton masterclasses all over France with the aim of sharing their acquired knowledge and attempting to rid the world of boring laptop live sets.
It's an age-old sentiment. It's not the tools that you're using, it's how you manipulate those tools. Swayzak are clearly at a point in their career where they could be using Ableton to make their live set easier, more formulaic, easier to understand. But it's clearly Taylor's foremost passion these days: "It's ironic because when we started I was all about making records, producing, and I didn't want to play live at all and now it's the opposite. I love playing live, and I love the fact that it's ephemeral. Once it's done, it's gone and you were there or you weren't and you carry on to the next one. I mean obviously we record gigs and we put them up for people to listen to on SoundCloud. That's inevitable. But the majority are not recorded. It's so easy to record stuff these days. It's quite nice that things are not recorded sometimes."
2009 saw the re-release of “Snowboarding in Argentina”, Swayzak’s oh so innocent debut album inspired by the Berlin / Detroit / Chicago / New York music of the early
90’s .Originally released in 1998, this album originated in two forms, one for the US market and one for the UK. However it was in Germany that Swayzak found themselves week after week, somehow stumbling upon a scene that was soon to be embraced by the world. In July 2011 James Taylor announced he was to leave the group, moving on to work on wine related projects and focus on his work as an Ableton Live trainer.
The move was entirely amicable and seen as a natural progression by both with Brown moving forward at the helm of the Swayzak productions and Live shows.
In 2012 the first release from Brown saw a new one-off side project emerge under the rawer, more stripped-back moniker of S_W_Z_K. The debut LP, released to critical acclaim on Tresor, picked up high praise from fans, to name but a few, such as Marcel Dettmann, Francois K, Luke Slater, Paul Woolford, Norman Nodge, Hemlock, Laurent Garnier, Troy Pierce, Groove, Partysan, Beatport, Raveline, De:Bug, DJ Mag...
More recently saw the return of Swayzak as David’s first solo material under the name surfaced on the likes of 3rd Wave and CONSTRUCT picking up support from
Midland, Craig Richards, Dubfire, Tensnake, Solomun, Mano Le Tough, Laurent Garnier, Mark E, Konrad Black, Tensnake, Jozif, Heidi, My Favourite Robot, Danny Howells, Mixmag, BBC Radio 1, Resident Advisor, Vice Magazine... as well as remixes for various labels such as Resopal, Save You and Cobra Voyage.
A retrospective of Swayzak works alongside unreleased and new material will launch the project in the autumn of 2016, alongside new material on Curle, 3rd Wave, Rawax and more...
In these times of micro-genres and rapid rise DJ stars, Swayzak sticks to his guns, happy in his outsider status and not content to hop on to any passing bandwagon. With forthcoming releases and remixes, continued touring and tracks being used in Hollywood movies, hit TV shows like Ugly Betty and South Korean kitchen commercials (?!) the Swayzak sound has crossed the globe and yet still remains deeply underground...
Is that the way forward for Swayzak, then? It's hard to say. It's obvious, however, that they've been in the business a bit too long to make plans anyway. When I once again ask about future plans, Taylor tells me that "I think with the music, particularly dance music, it's become such a machine where people release stuff just to be seen, to get gigs and da-da-da. I don't want to really be a part of it like that and I think it's really important to only really release stuff when you've got something to say. Sometimes it's good not to say anything. It's better to shut up than to say something that you would regret. You realize that, OK, you don't have to make noise all the time. Sometimes you say more by saying nothing."
