Peter Ruzicka Conducts Mahler
Peter Ruzicka studied under prestigious German composer Hans Werner Henze in Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. His orchestral works, chamber music works and operas have been premiered by major orchestras including Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. And he has worked with most sought-after conductors in the world for many times, such as Christian Thielemann and Paavo Järvi. As a conductor, Ruzicka has recorded a number of CDs. Besides his own works, he does well in interpreting Gustav Mahler and Hans Werner Henze. This concert is going to be the first concert in “European Fog” series, and its repertoire will focus on the two giants in late Romanticism Period: Gustav Mahler and Richrd Wagner.

Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West make up London-based Britpop duo Oh Wonder, coming to Shanghai's Bandai Namco on March 6 as part of their Ultralife World Tour. The self-made pair of alt-pop stars have become international hits since the release of their debut album in September, 2015. The self-titled Oh Wonder was the result of a year's work writing, recording and releasing one song a month. This year of D.I.Y. build-up gave them a chance to play sold-out shows in London, Paris, New York and Los Angeles one week after the record dropped. Hu Chenyun Live Suona Performance
Hu is an expert player of the Suona and other Chinese wind instruments, and is well versed in musical works ranging from traditional pieces to contemporary ones. Lin Daye Conducts Mozart
Through regular communication with NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, SSO’s own artistic level is growing day by day. Violinist Stefan Wagner from NDR and Violist Chen Li from SSO will join talents to perform Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, K.364, in which Mozart perfectly integrated symphony and concerto. After winning First Prize in the 6th Sir George Solti International Conducting Competition in Frankfurt, Lin Daye’s star has risen. He is the Music Director in Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and he teaches in the Conducting Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In the second half of the concert, he will interpret the best minor work in Mozart’s later period: Symphony No.40 in G minor, K.550.

Long Yu Conducts Beethoven
Beethoven’s and Brahms’ works are considered as symbols of German classical music in a long term. Each of Beethoven’s symphonies embodies the composer’s utmost effort, and Long Yu, SSO’s Music Director, will present Symphony No.8 in F major, Op.93 with the orchestra. Comparing with other symphonies, No.8 is more minute and vivid on its emotion. Brahms’ Concerto for violin, cello & orchestra in A minor, Op.102 witnessed how he and violinist Joachim became friends again. Using two solo instruments in a concerto had been a tradition in Baroque Period, and it was very unusual in the latter half of the 19th Century, when Romanticism was at its summit. Violinist Sheryl Staples and cellist Carter Brey from New York Philharmonic will perform this masterpiece together.

Based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée, Opera Carmen is the final work of the French composer Georges Bizet and also known as the most prestigious work of the French romantic opera in the 19th century. The Carmen coproduced by Shanghai Opera House, Opera Hong Kong and Slovene National Theatre, with Philippe Arlaud as the stage director, set and lighting designer. This production of Carmen has been performed many times at various major theatres in China and was presented at the Shanghai Grand Theatre in July 2016 as the closing performance of Shanghai Opera House’s 2015/2016 Performance Season. Poutine Pop-Up
Funk and soul club Shake dedicates a weekend to Canada's finest culinary export: poutine. For two nights only, they're serving poutines with rare toppings like hongshao rou, teriyaki beef tongue, foie gras truffle, and more. Why poutine? Shake's chef, Danyi Gao – the recently-crowned champion of one of China's biggest cooking shows, "Chef Nic" – spent time in Quebec last year starring in videos for Canada's "Keep Exploring" campaign, including an episode where she made a hongshao rou poutine that people have been asking about ever since.
