Paying Respect to the Martyrs

During the long years of revolutionary struggle, many heroic sons and daughters spilled their blood on their hometowns and foreign lands for the liberation of the nation and the happiness of the people. Some of them have left their names for ages, while others are not even known. At the time of the Qingming, students from the Primary Section of SUIS HF Campus paid tribute to the memory of the revolutionary martyrs in their own way.

Anne Shen from P6A listened to the story of her grandfather, Shen Shanwen (former member of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial Committee, former commander of the Anhui Military Region and General of the Republic), who told us about the Red Revolution. In addition to the stories of Dong Cunrui and Qiu Shaoyun, he also told us the story of Gao Zhihang, the "God of Air Warfare". Gao Zhihang joined the army at the age of 17 and shot down a total of 46 enemy planes. In November 1937, while fighting Japanese planes, he was shot together with his plane and died a heroic death at the age of 29. After his death, Gao Zhihang was posthumously awarded the title of "Major General of the Air Force". In the video, he told us to be grateful to the great Communist Party of China and our country, and also gave a message to the students of SUIS HF Campus. Anne Shen expressed her deep appreciation of the lofty ideals, firm beliefs and noble morals of our revolutionary ancestors, which are spiritual monuments and moral models worthy of commemoration, study, transmission and promotion by generations of young people.

Jean Cheng of P2A shared with us the story of the revolutionary martyrs who lived in the world, which is always presented at the Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery of the Liberation War of Shandong Province on Qingming every year. The old man with white hair, dressed in a PLA uniform, came to pay tribute to his fallen comrades. In April 1947, as a platoon leader in the East China Field Army, he jumped off a cliff in the face of an enemy siege, vowing not to be taken prisoner. After the founding of the country, a cemetery for the martyrs of the Liberation War was built in Shandong province, with the names of 32 martyrs, including Han Chengshan, "who had died", carved into the inscription. But Han Chengshan did not die. He jumped off a cliff and was saved by the local people. At that time, for various reasons, Han Chengshan was unable to return to his unit. It was not until the 1980s that Han Chengshan's Party and military registrations were restored after an investigation by the relevant authorities. Han Chengshan became a "revolutionary martyr" who is still alive in the world.

Kevin Guo from P3A shared with us the story of Wang Erxiao, the hero of the anti-Japanese war. He told us the story of how the 13-year-old Wang Erxiao faced the enemy bravely and led them into the encirclement of our army and was destroyed. In the end, Wang Erxiao was stabbed through the chest by the enemy and fell hard on a boulder. Wang Erxiao's heroic deeds and dedication will always inspire and motivate us, and he will always live on in our hearts!

Dana Chen, P3A, told us about "The Brightest Coordinate in My Heart", which described how Comrade Qiu Shaoyun, at the age of 26, endured the excruciating pain of burning fire until the end of his life in order to achieve his goal of infiltration and not to expose his teammates, and how the attack on the "391" heights eventually wiped out the enemy defenders, which was also achieved with This was also achieved by the self-sacrifice of Comrade Qiu Shaoyun. At this point, Dana Chen saluted her hero with the Pioneer Corps salute!

Our campus combined with thanksgiving education to express deep remembrance and infinite nostalgia for our martyrs by eulogising their great achievements and noble spirit, and at the same time launched an "online martyr sacrifice" activity Under the guidance of their parents, students logged on to the website and expressed their gratitude and admiration for the martyrs, ancestors, sages and heroes on the interactive platform set up to pay tribute to the martyrs online.
