Taylor Swift shamed Kanye West without even uttering his name during her acceptance speech for Album of the Year at the 58th Grammy Awards on Monday night.
The 26-year-old singer and the 38-year-old rapper have an infamous history thanks to West's famous rushing of the stage during her acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs when he said, "Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m [going to] let you finish — but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time."
Then, just last week, West played his new album at a New York fashion show. It features a song titled "Famous," which contains the lyric, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that ... famous."
Swift, however, made swift work of West and his misogynistic behavior in a speech that said everything without stating the obvious:
"As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you are going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world," Swift said.
Fans cheered, and online it seems everyone is holding their breath for the inevitable West response.
