跟所有爱音乐的小伙儿一样，他会和大伙儿一起偶尔在大街上弹个吉他卖唱挣点零花钱什么的。父母开车带他去哪儿的时候，车里会放放音乐，比如Van Morrison，Bob Dylan。

Ed在Suffolk长大，和同龄人一样上当地的小学，初中。11岁的时候，他在爱尔兰遇见Damien Rice，之后深受启发，开始写歌。14岁的暑假，Ed带着一个背包，一把吉他和一些衣服独自一人跑到伦敦历练，并录制了The Orange Room EP。17岁，Ed从高中辍学，搬到伦敦，开始在大大小小的场馆演出。18岁那年，他整整表演了312场。19岁，他的现场版表演“You need me, I don't need you" 在网络上走红，然后Ed开始有了人气，和其他歌手合作演出。

从一文不名到现在，Ed的成名历程充满了各种艰辛。他不是那种靠某个事件瞬间走红，而是靠自己的演出一点一点积攒技能，慢慢获得粉丝的欣赏和认同。
