昨天跟朋友闲聊，说到一个我们都认识的人，他超级喜欢说大话。

I’ll take anything he says with a grain of salt. He has a habit of exaggerating things.

大家可能会问了，take with a grain of salt是什么意思呢？是要聊美食了吗？

我第一次听到这个表达的时候，也有跟大家一样的困惑，因为take with a grain of salt字面上的意思是加一点点盐，grain在这是颗粒的意思。

However, it means do not take something too seriously, to be skeptical / to listen to a story or an explanation with considerable doubt，don’t exactly believe something

表达的意思是对什么事情不要太当真，要有一点怀疑精神，或者当你听到一个故事或者解释的时候，不要无条件地相信，应该稍微思考一下，抱一定的、恰当的怀提态度。

大家都听过狼来了的故事，说谎成习惯的人是得不到别人的信任的。

You must take anything he says with a grain of salt. he doesn't always tell the truth.

他说的话你不要完全相信，他经常说谎。

有人说即便是新闻媒体的报道有时候也会适当的加工，所以，

我看了这篇文章，但是我持一定的怀疑态度。

That means you understand that something is not completely true or right，你知道某些事情并不是完全真实或者正确的。

俗话说，天下没有免费的午餐，当有人给你提供免费的东西时，你就应该动脑筋想想，千万不要完全接受，应该持一定的怀疑态度。

我们除了可以说take with a grain of salt, 还可以说take (something) with a pinch of salt, pinch在这是少量的意思，整个短语的意思跟take with a grain of salt 一样。

It means to consider or evaluate something, such as a statement, while keeping in mind that it may not be completely true or accurate.

意思是你在考虑或者评价一件事情的时候，比如一个说法，应该记住它可能不是完全准确或者真实的。

I heard that you can get a free movie ticket if you wear red, but I'm going to take it with a pinch of salt.

我听说只要你穿红色的衣服就可以得到一张免费电影票，但是我觉得不完全是真的。

 

They took my explanation with a pinch of salt. I was sure they didn't believe me.

他们并没有完全接受我的解释，我确定他们不相信我。

最后一个例句，

Before elections, all parties make a lot of promises. They are best taken with a grain of salt.
