可是好想把话给收回去，在英语里，

有一个非常形象的表达大家可以使用

“eat your words 吃掉说出去的话”。

不知道大家有没有这样的经历，说完一句话之后，觉得自己不应该这么说，可是俗话说“说出去的话，泼出去的水”，说出去的话就像泼出去的水一样难以收回。

可是好想把话给收回去，在英语里，有一个非常形象的表达大家可以使用——“eat your words 吃掉说出去的话”。

Eat your words means to retract, regret, or feel foolish about what one has previously said/ to admit that something you said before was wrong.

吃掉你说的话表示对之前自己说的话觉得很后悔，很傻，很想收回去，或者承认自己说的话是错的。

You think I can't get an A in this class, but I'll make you eat your words when we get our report cards!

你觉得我不可能在这门课上拿到A，拿到成绩报告单的时候我会让你把说的话咽回去。

Mark promised that the client would sign the contract, but he had to eat his words when they decided not to go ahead in the end.

马克信誓旦旦地说客户会肯定会签合约，但当客户最终决定不签约时，他只得承认自己完全错了。

If somebody has to eat their words they are admitting that their earlier prediction was wrong, often in a humiliating way.

如果有人想要把说出去的话咽回去，表示ta承认自己之前的预测是不对的，常常觉得有些丢脸的。

I used to think that Louise was mean, but I had to eat my words when she gave me a birthday present this year.

我以前总说路易丝小气，但我还真是错怪她了，我今年过生日她送了我礼物。

If someone has to eat their words, they have to admit that an opinion that they stated publicly has now been proved wrong.

同样，eat one's words，也可以表示说话人承认他们公开发表的意见和看法现在被证实是不对的。

The president was forced to eat his words after it was shown that what he'd said wasn't true.

验证了总统说的话不对之后，他不得不把之前说的话给收回去。

对人对事，我们都不应该以老眼光看人，有时候，我们可能小看了别人，做了一些不好的预测。

I said he’d never win, but I had to eat my words.

我说他永远不会赢，现在我要收回这话了。

可是有时候，我们又会被别人小看，这个时候我们就应该振作起来，用事实给他们一记响亮的耳光。

My teacher told me that I would fail all of my final tests. I’m going to make him eat his words!

我的老师说我期末考试全都过不了，我要用事实向他证明他大错特错了。
